Learning
The Cavapoo is keen and bright. Young Cavapoos sometimes have a short attention span, so don’t despair if they lose concentration; a little patience goes a long way. They are very intelligent but also very eager to please, which makes them very trainable. Cavapoos can master many tricks, and since they are also athletic, they do brilliantly in sports such as canine agility.
As Cavapoos hate to be left alone, it is important to teach them how to deal with being away from you when they are young. Failure to do so can lead to behaviour problems.
Temperament
The Cavapoo is an absolute sweetheart! They are incredible friendly and even-tempered, making them ideal family dogs. They are wonderful with children, though rough play can hurt the Cavapoo, so very young children should be supervised. The Cavapoo is sweet and gentle, so also makes a good pet for an older person.
Living with
The Cavapoo doesn’t need a lot of exercise, but since they tend to put on weight easily, exercise and a sensible diet are important. Young Cavapoos are energetic, and even older Cavapoos enjoy exercise. Even though a twice daily walk is sufficient exercise, your Cavapoo will also happily join you on longer walks.
Although Cavapoos are friendly to everyone, they are especially attached to their family members. These dogs tend to suffer from separation anxiety, and hate being left alone. You should do some training to help your dog cope with being left home alone; otherwise your Cavapoo may develop behavioural problems.
Due to their relatively short muzzle, Cavapoos do not cope well with heat. During warm weather, keep your Cavapoo in the shade and provide plenty of water; you can exercise them at dawn and dusk. Swimming can also help your Cavapoo keep cool.
