Also called the Prague Ratter, this tiny Czech breed is usually black and tan, with a short glossy coat. They are bold and brave, and clever too. The Prazsky Krysarik breed can be trained, but needs a gentle hand as they are quite sensitive. While they make great pets, they also do very well in canine sports (though some individuals have fragile bones).

About Prazsky Krysarik breed
Also called the Prague Ratter, this Czech breed is one of the smallest dogs in the world, though it is often mistaken for a Chihuahua or Miniature Pinscher. The Pražský Krysařík is well proportioned, with a level top line and surprisingly deep chest. The dog’s forehead is rounded, with wide-set eyes, and jaws that meet in a scissor bite. The ears are triangular and upright.
Although the Pražský Krysařík’s tail was traditionally docked, this is now banned in many regions. The natural tail is long and carried high. The legs are straight, with round feet and dark claws.
Origin: Czech Republic
The Pražský Krysařík may have a short or a long coat. Short coated Pražský Krysaříks have a dense, smooth and glossy coat, whereas the long coated Pražský Krysaříks have fringes on the ears, tail, and legs. This breed does not shed much. The short haired variety is very easy to groom, as they will be able to care for their own coat. The long haired variety may need a little brushing to avoid tangles in the fur fringes.
One of the most common colour variants is black and tan. Brown and tan, and blue and tan are also frequent. Other colours include yellow, red, black and tan merle, and brown and tan merle. Large patches of white fur, or white on the toes, are not accepted according to the breed standard. Regardless of coat colour, the Pražský Krysařík’s nose tends to be dark.
The Pražský Krysařík is generally a healthy breed; however they are prone to a few health conditions:
- Bone injuries
- Diseases of gums and teeth
- Patellar luxation
At Newdoggy.com we promote reputable breeders, who use genetic testing and good breeding practices to remove genetic conditions from their breeding lines. Newdoggy.com’s Health Guarantee certifies that all promoted puppies are in good health.

The Pražský Krysařík is generally playful and spirited, always curious and ready to go. A poorly socialised dog is likely to be fearful or even aggressive.

Keep in mind that this breed is delicate, so is a better pet for older children that can be trusted to play gently with this small dog.
This breed needs proper exercise, as they are naturally active. They should be walked daily, and will also enjoy playing. Don’t be fooled by their size: the tiny Pražský Krysařík is capable of competing in all kinds of canine acitvities. They do well in tracking, obedience, and even canine agility.
Be aware that even though the Pražský Krysařík is a companion animal, they retain a strong hunting instinct. They love to chase down small animals such as mice, rats, and squirrels. Make sure to keep your Pražský Krysařík on a leash when outside.
