Description
A Rottweiler is a robust and powerful dog that is medium to large in size. They are extremely loyal and eager to work and please their owners. The Rottweiler is easily recognized by their black coat and rustic spots. Its head should be medium in size while its eyes are almond shaped and dark brown in colour. The ears should be medium in size, triangular and set wide apart on the skull. The jaws on a Rottweiler should be strong in appearance and the mouth will contain 42 teeth as an adult and consist of a scissor bite. The tail should be medium in length.
The average litter size for Rottweilers ranges from 9-12 puppies but the litter can be larger than this as well.
Origin
The Rottweiler originates from Germany and it is traced all the way back to Roman times. It is considered to be one of the oldest known breeds. Originally they were used as herding dogs and then they were used as guarding dogs for the herds as well as their owners. At the beginning of the 20th century, Rottweilers were used as police dogs.
Look
Colours: Rottweilers should be black in colour with defined markings of rich tan on the cheeks, muzzle, throat, legs and chest.
Coat: A Rottweiler will have a top coat and an undercoat. The top coat should be of medium length, dense and coarse.
Health
There are few health problems that may arise with Rottweilers. Before you decide to buy a Rottie, you should consider the followning risk factors that may arise with your New Doggy and remember that this specific breed may require more health monitoring:

Learning

Living with
A Rottweiler is a quite a large dog and is more suited to live in a house with the ability to go outside. If you live in a flat, that is fine as well, just ensure that he or she has the opportunity to go outside daily to get some much needed fresh air and exercise. Companionship is essential for this breed. They will form an attachment with their owners as they grow up and that attachment helps shape them into the loyal companions they are meant to be.
As with any dogs, Rotties need to be taken on daily walks. These walks help with anxiety of the animal, while allowning Rotties to get the necessary exercise they need. They are a quite active dog so Rottweilers would love some time outside playing with the family! Just make sure to always have fresh water available on those hot days.
