Riyadh Dog Breed Regulations

Before you buy a puppy in Riyadh or arrange international puppy transport to Saudi Arabia, it is important to check whether the chosen breed is allowed to enter the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia has specific pet import rules, and dogs usually need an official import permit before travel.

Saudi import rules are stricter than in many destinations. The dog’s breed must be accepted for import, and the required documents usually include a veterinary health certificate, vaccination record or pet passport, microchip identification, owner identification, and a photo of the pet.

Restricted or prohibited dog breeds may include:

  • Pit Bull-type dogs
  • American Pit Bull Terrier
  • American Bully
  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier
  • American Staffordshire Terrier
  • Rottweiler
  • Boxer
  • Mastiff-type dogs
  • Tosa
  • Bulldog-type dogs
  • Perro de Presa Canario

Rules may also apply to crossbreeds or dogs that are considered part of a restricted breed type. In some cases, additional declarations, permits, or official confirmation may be required before travel.

Because Saudi pet import rules can change, it is always important to check the latest official requirements before choosing a puppy or arranging transport to Riyadh.

Important note: If you are unsure whether your chosen breed can enter Riyadh, the NewDoggy team can help review the current requirements before you make a final decision. This helps families buy a puppy in Riyadh with more confidence and avoid problems before travel.

Riyadh Pet Import Requirements

If you want to buy a puppy in Riyadh, it is important to understand the Saudi pet import process before making travel arrangements. Bringing a puppy into Saudi Arabia requires careful preparation, correct health documents, vaccination records, microchip identification, and an approved import permit.

NewDoggy helps make this journey easier by preparing the necessary paperwork, coordinating the required steps, and keeping you informed from the moment you reserve your puppy until your puppy arrives safely in Riyadh.

The following is usually needed to bring a puppy into Riyadh:

  1. Import permit: Dogs entering Saudi Arabia usually need an approved import permit from the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture before travel.
  2. Allowed breed confirmation: The dog’s breed must be allowed to enter Saudi Arabia. Some breeds or breed types may be restricted, so this should be checked before choosing a puppy.
  3. Microchip: The puppy should be identified with an electronic microchip. The chip number must match the puppy’s vaccination records, health documents, and import paperwork.
  4. Rabies vaccination: A valid rabies vaccination is normally required for dogs entering Saudi Arabia. The timing and validity of the vaccination should be confirmed before travel.
  5. Routine vaccinations: Core puppy vaccinations, such as distemper, parvovirus, infectious hepatitis, and other required vaccines, should be up to date according to the puppy’s age and veterinary guidance.
  6. Veterinary health certificate: A veterinarian must examine the puppy before travel and confirm that the puppy is healthy and fit to travel.
  7. Vaccination record or pet passport: The puppy’s documents should show the microchip number, vaccination history, rabies vaccination details, and veterinary records.
  8. Owner and pet details: Import applications may require the owner’s identification or passport details, the pet’s microchip number, vaccination information, and a photo of the puppy.
  9. Airline or transport requirements: Airlines and transport companies may have their own rules about crate size, booking, documents, temperature restrictions, and travel conditions.

Important note: Saudi pet import rules can change, and the exact requirements may depend on the puppy’s country of origin, age, vaccination status, breed, and travel route. Always check the latest official regulations before arranging travel. You can also contact the NewDoggy team if you would like help arranging the correct documents and procedures to buy a puppy in Riyadh safely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to guide your choice.

How much does it cost to buy a puppy in Riyadh from NewDoggy?

Pricing varies by breed, age, bloodline, training level, and travel requirements. For exact details, please check the prices listed on our website or contact us directly. Each puppy’s total price includes the important preparation steps such as vaccinations, health checks, travel crate, health documents, and travel-related arrangements.

How long does puppy delivery to Riyadh take?

If your puppy is old enough, fully vaccinated, and has the necessary documents prepared, travel can usually be arranged within a short time after reservation. For younger puppies, vaccination timing, document preparation, import permit steps, and travel planning may take several weeks. We always confirm the expected timeline based on the puppy’s age and destination requirements.

Do puppies fly in cargo?

Depending on the airline, route, puppy size, and available travel options, puppies may travel as manifested live animal cargo or with a flight nanny where possible. Live animal cargo does not mean travelling with luggage. Puppies are transported in a dedicated, climate-controlled, pressurized live-animal area with suitable temperature and airflow.

What is the minimum age for a puppy to be imported into Riyadh?

The practical travel timeline depends on the puppy’s age, vaccination status, documents, airline rules, country of origin, and Saudi import permit requirements. NewDoggy confirms the correct timeline before arranging travel.

What vaccinations are required for my puppy before importing to Riyadh?

Before importing a puppy into Riyadh, the puppy should be microchipped and have valid vaccinations recorded in the pet passport, vaccination record, or official health documents. A valid rabies vaccination is normally required, and routine puppy vaccinations such as distemper, parvovirus, infectious hepatitis, and leptospirosis should also be up to date according to the puppy’s age and veterinary guidance. Requirements can depend on the puppy’s origin and travel route.

How does NewDoggy ensure the puppy arrives healthy in Riyadh?

Each puppy is prepared with age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip identification, parasite prevention, veterinary checks, and travel documents. Before departure, a veterinarian confirms that the puppy is healthy and fit to travel. Puppies travel in an airline-approved crate, and we coordinate the journey carefully to support a safe arrival in Riyadh.

Can I see photos or videos of my puppy while waiting?

Absolutely. NewDoggy provides photo and video updates so you can follow your puppy’s growth, personality, and preparation before travel.

How much does NewDoggy charge for shipping to Riyadh?

Shipping costs depend on the puppy’s size, crate size, airline, route, and current travel requirements. The total usually includes health checks, documentation, travel crate, and the flight or delivery arrangement. Please contact us for an exact quote tailored to your puppy’s travel plan.

How can I pay safely?

NewDoggy accepts secure payments via Credit Card or PayPal, both offering buyer protection and money-back guarantees. Every client receives an invoice and payment confirmation.

What if I have questions after my puppy arrives?

Even after your puppy settles in, you’re never on your own. The NewDoggy team is always just a message away to answer questions and offer helpful advice about settling in, feeding, care, travel adjustment, and the first steps after arrival in Riyadh.

On Arrival

The process does not end when your puppy arrives in Riyadh. After arrival, your dog may need a local veterinary visit, microchip registration check, or local registration depending on the current Saudi rules and your municipality.

Dog owners in Riyadh should also follow local rules regarding responsible dog ownership, public spaces, leash use, identification, and veterinary care. These requirements can change, so our team will be happy to guide you through the latest steps after your puppy arrives.
