The Storm of a Lifetime: Snoopy’s Personal Tail
Hurricane Matthew wreaked terrifying devastation along the coasts of North and South America, triggering massive, frantic evacuations. In the midst of such chaotic natural disasters, our four-legged family members are inevitably caught up in the upheaval. While some pets are tragically left behind to face the elements, many others are scooped up by their devoted owners as they flee for safety. Thankfully, amidst the destruction of Matthew, we have a heartwarming story of survival, resilience, and canine companionship to share.
The Calm Before the Storm
Allow us to introduce you to Snoopy (formerly known as Noel), who holds the very special title of being New Doggy’s first-ever dog placed in Florida!
Snoopy arrived in the Sunshine State in September, blissfully unaware of the looming hurricane season. His new family welcomed him with open arms, and he immediately found a kindred spirit in Nina, the family’s 14-year-old German Shepherd. Despite the age difference, the two quickly became inseparable. Snoopy seamlessly integrated into his new life, splitting his days between curling up for warm lap-cuddles with his humans and doing joyful, high-speed dashes around his new house and garden.
Weathering the Chaos Together
The honeymoon period was abruptly interrupted when Hurricane Matthew made its ominous approach. As mandatory evacuation orders were issued, Snoopy’s family immediately packed up their lives, ensuring both Snoopy and Nina were safely secured in the car before heading out of the storm’s path.
Unsurprisingly, this was Snoopy’s first-ever hurricane experience. The frantic energy of evacuation, the howling winds, and the sudden displacement into an unfamiliar environment left the new pup feeling nervous, shy, and overwhelmed.
This is where the magic of a multi-dog household truly shone. Nina, a seasoned senior who had weathered her fair share of Florida storms over the last decade and a half, stepped up as a calming anchor for her new little brother. Her steady, unbothered presence helped Snoopy cope with the frightening changes and sensory overload, proving that sometimes the absolute best comfort comes from a furry friend. Together, the whole pack safely rode out the worst of the storm.
Returning to Normalcy
Finally, the skies cleared, the winds died down, and Snoopy’s family was given the green light to return home. There is always a lingering anxiety when returning to the aftermath of a natural disaster, but Snoopy quickly dissolved that tension for his humans.
His family knew his confident spirit had fully bounced back the moment they let him into the backyard. He immediately went right back to enthusiastically chasing every tennis ball in sight before heading inside to happily devour a massive, hearty meal.
Today, Snoopy, Nina, and their loving family are settling back into their daily routine—or, at least, as normal a routine as one can possibly have after a major hurricane. Their story is a beautiful reminder of the resilience of our pets and the incredible bond they share with the families who keep them safe.
